Boxing in Szczecin for women looks exactly the same as it does for men: a warm-up, technique, pad and bag work, drills in pairs. You don't need experience, strength or a "fighter's character" — you need trainers, water and a willingness to spend the first few weeks learning the basics. At BKS Rocky Szczecin at ul. Jagiellońska 67 your first session is free, so you can try it out without committing to anything.

Is boxing for women? Facts instead of myths

Olympic boxing has been a women's sport for years — it's an Olympic discipline with a full system of weight and age categories, Polish Championships and clubs where girls train alongside boys. At amateur, recreational level the difference between training for women and men is minimal, and it comes down to the same things as for any beginner: fitness level, technique and experience.

Three myths that most often stop women from walking into the gym for the first time:

  • "I'll have to fight on my very first session." The first classes are about learning your stance, footwork and the simplest punches. Work in pairs and sparring are matched to the boxer's level, not thrown at beginners straight away.
  • "I'll bulk up and get broad shoulders." Boxing training is mainly endurance and technical work. The effect you usually notice fastest is better fitness and a stronger core — not muscle growth.
  • "I'm too weak / too old / not fit enough." Boxing scales very easily. The pace of your bag work, the number of rounds and the intensity of drills depend on you and on your coach's guidance.

If you have chronic health problems, injuries to your spine, shoulders or knees, or you're returning to sport after a long break, check with a doctor before you start. That's the only sensible answer a coach can give.

What training gives you: body, fitness, mindset

Body and fitness

A 90-minute boxing session combines aerobic work (skipping rope, footwork, rounds on the bag) with short, intense efforts. Realistically, an hour of this kind of training usually burns a few hundred kilocalories — exactly how many depends on your body weight, the intensity and your experience. The side effect many people appreciate most: better coordination, balance and body awareness.

Confidence

Confidence in boxing doesn't come from believing you could "take someone on". It comes from repetition. You can hold your stance, you can step back, you can guard your head — and you know you can stay calm when the pace picks up. That carries over outside the gym: to presentations, conversations, difficult situations.

Letting off steam

The bag and the pads are honest. You can't think about your emails while the coach is counting down the last ten seconds of a round. For many people it's the best part of the day — 90 minutes when your head has just one job.

What an adult group session looks like

The BKS Rocky timetable has no separate women's and men's classes — adults train in the same groups, at the same times. A session lasts 1.5 hours and follows a repeatable structure:

  1. Warm-up — skipping rope, joint mobility, general conditioning exercises.
  2. Technique — stance, footwork, straight punches, defence. You repeat it standing still and on the move.
  3. Pads and bags — the coach calls out combinations, you work on accuracy and rhythm.
  4. Work in pairs — at a level matched to how advanced the participants are.
  5. Strengthening and stretching — core, back, mobility, breathing.

Times to choose from:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 18:30 and 20:00 — adults
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 09:30 — open group, 19:00 — adults
  • Saturday: 11:00 — strength and conditioning with coach Marcel Grabowski

The morning open group at 09:30 is a good option if you work remotely or on shifts. You'll find the full breakdown in the training timetable.

Kit for a beginner: what to buy and what can wait

For your first session, sports clothing, a spare pair of trainers, water and a towel are enough. Only once you know you're staying is it worth buying your own gear.

Kit What to choose When to buy
Boxing wraps Elastic, 3.5–4.5 m long Straight away — the cheapest and most important item
Training gloves Usually 10–12 oz for a lighter body weight; 12 oz is a safe choice to start After 1–2 sessions, once you've talked to your coach
Mouthguard Thermoplastic, moulded at home Before you start working in pairs
Shoes Light, with a flat sole; boxing boots optional When you want more stable footwork
Chest protector A women's model in the right size Only once you move on to contact work and competitions

The right ounce depends on your weight and the type of work: slightly heavier gloves work better on the bag and pads, because they protect your wrists better. Before you buy, ask the coach at the gym which size will suit you.

Safety: what decides whether you leave in one piece

Amateur boxing is a contact sport, but the level of risk depends above all on who runs the sessions and how the work in pairs is organised. What to look for when choosing a club:

  • Licence and structure. BKS Rocky Szczecin is a licensed boxing club (Polish Boxing Association, PZB), and its boxers compete regularly.
  • Coaching qualifications. Head coach Viacheslav Prokopchuk is a Master of Sport of Ukraine, a European Championship bronze medallist and a Polish Boxing Association (PZB) instructor. The adult group and personal training sessions are also run by Denis Grzesiak, a medallist at the Polish Championships. You'll find the profiles in the Rocky Team coaches section.
  • Progression. Technique before intensity, protective gear, sparring matched to your level — that's the standard you have every right to expect.
  • Atmosphere. A good boxing club isn't built on competing for dominance. Boxing is about discipline, respect and team — and that's how things work at Rocky.

If you'd rather start without a group, personal training is a sensible option: an individual programme, learning from scratch, technique correction, strength and conditioning. You arrange the time in advance and discuss the price individually — it isn't in the price list, so the easiest thing is to ask via the contact page or on WhatsApp at +48 579 118 191.

Frequently asked questions

Is boxing good for women in their 30s and 40s?

Yes, because the intensity can be scaled — at the start it's technique that matters, not pace. If you have injuries or chronic conditions, check with a doctor before you start, and tell the coach at the gym about any limitations.

Are there women-only classes at BKS Rocky Szczecin?

The timetable doesn't split groups into women's and men's — adults train together at the same times. If you'd rather start one-to-one, you can book a personal training session; the price is agreed individually.

Which boxing gloves should a woman start with?

With a lighter body weight, 10–12 oz gloves are usually enough, and 12 oz is a safe choice for bag and pad work. Buy them after your first classes, once the coach has seen your weight and the way you punch.

Will boxing training help me lose weight?

Boxing burns a lot of energy and involves plenty of full-body work, but the result depends above all on consistency and diet. Two or three sessions a week plus keeping an eye on your meals gives the most lasting effect.

What should I bring to my first session?

Sports clothing, a spare pair of trainers, water, a towel and your shower things. Gloves and wraps aren't necessary the first time — first see whether this kind of training suits you.
