Boxing for Beginners in Szczecin: How to Start From Scratch
You don't need fitness levels or experience to start boxing. See what the first session looks like, which times to pick and how much a pass costs in Szczecin.

To start boxing as a beginner in Szczecin you don't need fitness, your own kit or any experience at all — comfortable clothes, a bottle of water and one phone call or form to book a slot are enough. At BKS Rocky Szczecin on ul. Jagiellońska 67 the first session is free, and the adult groups train six days a week — mornings and evenings.
Below you'll find the specifics: what happens in the gym over 1.5 hours, what time to turn up, what we don't do at the start and what it really costs to begin.
Do you need to be fit to start?
No. Fitness is a result of training, not an entry requirement. In your first session nobody checks how many push-ups you can do or how far you can run — you work at your own level and your own pace.
If you're looking for an answer to the question "boxing — when should I start", it's simple: the best moment is the next session on the timetable. You can take up boxing in your twenties, thirties and forties, and also after years away from sport.
What if you're 35, 40 or older
Age changes the pace of learning, not whether you can train at all. You'll usually need a slightly longer warm-up, more mobility work and a calmer build-up to intense rounds. Boxing technique is very democratic, though — precision and footwork beat raw strength.
When to ask your doctor
If you have heart or blood pressure problems, back issues, a history of head injuries, or you're coming back after a long illness, it's your doctor who decides whether you're fit to train. Tell the coach about any limitations before the session — it's then much easier to adapt the exercises and skip the ones that would do you harm.
What a boxing session for beginners in Szczecin looks like
A session at the club lasts 1.5 hours and follows a repeatable structure — that's the standard in Olympic boxing. As a result, after two or three visits you know what to expect and stop worrying about how the class is organised.
A typical session runs like this:
- Warm-up — running, skipping rope, arm circles, joint mobility. 10–20 minutes to raise your heart rate and prepare the shoulders and hips.
- Stance and footwork — learning how to stand and how to move forwards, backwards and sideways. This is the most important lesson of your first few weeks.
- Punching technique — the straight punch, then simple combinations, practised in the air and in front of the mirror under the coach's eye.
- Pads and bags — slowly and correctly first, then faster. This is where you start to feel that boxing is an endurance sport.
- General conditioning and stretching — core, back, stability, and a calm wind-down at the end.
In your first sessions the tiring part isn't the punching itself, but keeping your hands up and moving in the stance. That's normal — your shoulder and forearm muscles are learning a new kind of work.
What to bring to your first session
- comfortable sportswear (a T-shirt, shorts or leggings),
- trainers with clean soles,
- a bottle of water and a small towel,
- wraps and gloves if you already have them — if not, ask when you book what to use at the start,
- a mouthguard will come in handy later, for work in pairs; you don't need one for your first session.
Open group and evening groups — when to come
Adult beginners have several time slots to choose from here, so training fits around shift work as well as a classic 9-to-5. You'll find the full training timetable on the website, and here's the short version:
| Day | Time | Group |
|---|---|---|
| Mon / Wed / Fri | 18:30 and 20:00 | Adults |
| Tue / Thu | 09:30 | Open group |
| Tue / Thu | 19:00 | Adults |
| Sat | 11:00 | Strength and conditioning |
The open group (Tue/Thu 09:30) is a good choice if you work remotely, have your mornings free or simply don't like crowds. Evenings (18:30, 19:00, 20:00) are the natural slot after work. Saturday strength and conditioning at 11:00 is run by a strength and conditioning coach and is a great complement to technique: strength, speed, stability.
The club is open Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 21:00 and on Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00. There are no classes on Sunday.
What we don't do in your first sessions
There's no sparring. It's the most common fear among people just starting out — and a completely unnecessary one.
At the beginning you work with your own body, the mirror, the bag and the coach's pads. Work in pairs comes in gradually, and first in the form of calm technical drills, without trading hard punches. Sparring is the next stage — matched to your level, with protective gear, with controlled power and under the supervision of a coach who decides who trains with whom.
As we see it, boxing is a sport and a way of working on your character, not a toughness test. Discipline, respect and team spirit work better than competing from day one.
Why it's worth training at a licensed club
BKS Rocky Szczecin is a licensed boxing club (Polish Boxing Association, PZB), and the classes are run by coaches with competitive experience — including a Master of Sport of Ukraine and a European Championship bronze medallist, as well as Polish Championship medallists. That matters precisely for beginners: someone corrects your technique from your very first punch instead of letting you cement mistakes. You'll find the coaches' profiles in the Rocky Team section.
What it costs to start: first session free, then a pass
The first session is free — you come along, train with the group and only then decide. Passes are valid for 30 days from purchase.
| Option | Price |
|---|---|
| First trial session | 0 zł |
| Single session | 40 zł |
| Independent training | 20 zł |
| 8-entry pass | 221 zł |
| 12-entry pass | 269 zł |
| 16-entry pass | 299 zł |
| OPEN pass | 319 zł |
For people starting from scratch the 8-entry pass makes the most sense — two sessions a week is a pace at which your body keeps up with recovery, and your technique still progresses quickly. Once you get into the rhythm, the 12-entry or OPEN pass works out better per session. You'll find the full breakdown in the pass price list.
If you train together with your child, take a look at the family pass (price per person: 8 entries 199 zł, 12 entries 225 zł, 16 entries 245 zł) and the details of the younger groups in the article Boxing for kids in Szczecin.
Personal training — learning from scratch, technique correction, working on your condition — is available by prior arrangement, and we agree the terms individually. Write or call to ask about a slot.
How to sign up at BKS Rocky
- Pick a slot from the timetable — the open group in the morning or one of the adult groups in the evening.

That's all it takes.
The hardest thing in boxing is that single step: walking into the gym. Book a trial session — the first session is free, and the coach will take care of the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Can I come to a session without gloves and wraps?
For your first session, yes — you'll spend most of the time on stance, footwork and technique without equipment. When you book, ask what's best to use at the start so you don't buy random kit.
How many times a week should a beginner train?
Two sessions a week usually gives good progress without overdoing it, and leaves time to recover in between. After a few weeks you can add a third session or the Saturday strength and conditioning class.
Are the adult groups only for experienced boxers?
No. In the adult groups people with very different levels of experience train side by side, and the coach adapts the exercises and pace to each participant's level. The open group on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 09:30 is a good choice if you'd prefer a calmer start.
When will I start working in pairs and sparring?
Work in pairs comes once you've mastered the basics of stance, punches and defence — the coach decides when you're ready. Sparring is matched to your level, done with protective gear and with controlled power.
Will boxing help me lose weight and get fitter?
Boxing training combines endurance work with full-body exercises, so the energy expenditure is high, but the results depend on how often you train, your diet and your sleep. Nobody will promise you a specific number of kilos — consistency makes the biggest difference here.
